Spaß im Freien
Spielzeug für draußen, Gartenspiele und aktives Spiel
Fresh-air play gives children space to move, observe, practise new skills and create their own adventures.
Gravitaly’s Outdoor Fun collection brings together selected toys and play accessories for gardens, parks, picnics, holidays and supervised family activities. Discover wooden bowling and pétanque sets, portable play flashlights, ride-on accessories, wooden play wagons and textile pieces that can help create an inviting play area.
Products in this collection are intended for different ages and activities. Some are throwing games containing heavy wooden pieces, others require assembly or must be combined with a compatible base product, while textile items need dry weather and suitable ground conditions.
Always check the individual product’s official age recommendation, included components, dimensions, maximum user weight, assembly instructions, warnings and permitted place of use.
What Is Currently Included?
Depending on availability, the collection may include:
- wooden bowling sets;
- wooden pétanque games;
- traditional wooden skill toys;
- rechargeable children’s flashlights;
- compatible ride-on conversion accessories;
- wooden play wagons;
- cotton play mats;
- children’s teepee tents.
Not every product described as portable or suitable for outdoor play is weather-resistant. Wooden and textile products should generally be brought indoors after use unless the manufacturer explicitly permits permanent outdoor storage.
Choosing by Age and Ability
Age labels must be taken from the manufacturer’s documentation for the exact product. They should not be estimated from appearance or rewritten to reach a broader audience.
Before choosing, consider:
- the official minimum age;
- the child’s balance and coordination;
- whether the child understands basic instructions;
- the weight and size of individual components;
- whether throwing or riding is involved;
- whether adult assembly is required;
- the permitted surface and environment;
- whether protective equipment is recommended or required;
- the maximum user weight.
Age alone does not prove that a child can safely use a ride-on toy or throwing game.
Wooden Bowling and Pétanque Games
Bowling and pétanque sets can create opportunities to practise aiming, rolling, counting, turn-taking and coordination. These benefits should be presented as play opportunities rather than guaranteed developmental results.
Choose a flat, clear play area away from:
area- roads and cycle paths;
- windows and fragile objects;
- stairs and water;
- pets and uninvolved children;
- crowded picnic areas;
- steep or uneven ground.
Wooden balls and pins can be relatively heavy. Children should roll or throw them only according to the game instructions and never towards people, animals, vehicles or property.
Inspect wooden pieces before use for cracks, splinters, loose fragments, severe dents or damage to the finish.
Ride-on and Tricycle Accessories
The current leg&go product is a conversion accessory, not a complete standalone tricycle. The compatible leg&go Balance Bike is sold separately.
This distinction should be visible in:
- the product title;
- the first sentence;
- the product images;
- the included/not included section;
- the area beside the price and Add to Cart button.
Before use:
- confirm compatibility with the exact bike model;
- follow the manufacturer’s assembly instructions;
- tighten and inspect all fasteners;
- adjust the seat to the child;
- respect the maximum user weight;
- use a correctly fitted helmet;
- provide close adult supervision;
- choose a level area away from traffic, slopes, stairs and water;
- inspect wheels, axles and frame before every ride.
A three-wheel configuration provides a different type of balance from a two-wheel bike but should not be described as impossible to tip or universally stable.
Play Flashlights
Rechargeable play flashlights can be used for supervised den-building, shadow play, evening walks and storytelling.
For safer use:
- follow the stated minimum age;
- use the supplied or approved charging equipment;
- charge under adult supervision;
- inspect the cable and charging port;
- keep the product dry;
- do not use it if swollen, cracked, unusually hot or damaged;
- never look directly into the LED at close range;
- do not shine it into another person’s or animal’s eyes;
- do not cover the product while charging;
- keep it away from fire and strong heat.
“Eye-safe” and “no heat emission” are technical claims that need evidence for the exact LED product. Safer consumer wording is:
Produces an adjustable LED light for supervised play. Do not look directly into the light source or shine it into anyone’s eyes.
A flashlight is not automatically an approved night light or sleep product. It should not be promoted for hugging or keeping in bed unless the manufacturer has specifically assessed that use.
Wooden Play Wagons
A play wagon should not be assumed to be:
- a baby walker;
- a ride-on toy;
- a seat;
- a pushchair;
- suitable for transporting a child;
- capable of supporting the child’s body weight.
Unless these functions are explicitly approved by the manufacturer, describe it only as a wagon for carrying toys during supervised play.
Keep pull cords away from the neck and check the official cord-length warning. Do not attach additional ropes or allow one child to pull another child in the wagon.
Teepees and Textile Play Areas
A children’s teepee should be assembled by an adult on a stable, level surface. Before play:
- connect and position the poles correctly;
- secure the upper tie;
- spread the base evenly;
- check that the structure does not wobble;
- keep entrances and ventilation openings clear;
- remove damaged or splintered poles;
- keep the tent away from candles, heaters, fire pits and barbecues.
When used outside:
- use only in dry, calm weather;
- do not leave it unattended;
- do not use it in strong wind;
- keep it away from pools and open water;
- do not place it directly beside a road or steep drop;
- bring it indoors after use;
- dry it completely before storage.
The teepee is not camping equipment and should not be described as protection from rain, wind, UV exposure or cold unless tested and approved for those functions.
Play Mats Outdoors
A textile mat may provide a defined sitting or play area, but it does not guarantee protection from falls, cold ground, moisture or sharp objects.
Before placing it outdoors:
- inspect the ground for glass, stones, thorns and insects;
- choose a dry and level surface;
- keep it away from fire and hot surfaces;
- supervise babies continuously;
- never use it as a sleep surface;
- wash and dry it according to the care label.
OEKO-TEX Standard 100 relates to testing for specified harmful substances within the certificate’s scope. It does not prove that the finished product is organic, weatherproof, environmentally neutral or suitable for unsupervised baby sleep.
Sun, Heat and Weather
Outdoor play products can become hot in direct sunlight. Check handles, seats, metal parts, dark surfaces and wooden components before allowing the child to touch or use them.
Wood and textiles may deteriorate when exposed to:
- rain;
- high humidity;
- strong sun;
- salt water;
- sand;
- frost;
- prolonged outdoor storage.
“Outdoor toy” does not automatically mean waterproof, UV-resistant or suitable for being left outside.
Adult Supervision
Adult supervision means that a responsible adult remains close enough to observe and intervene.
Before every activity:
- Read the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Confirm age and ability suitability.
- Inspect the product.
- Assemble it completely.
- Clear the surrounding area.
- Check weather and ground conditions.
- Position spectators safely.
- Supervise throughout play.
- Stop use if the child is tired, distressed or no longer following instructions.
Toy Safety and CE Marking
Products classified as toys must comply with the applicable EU toy-safety requirements, be supported by an EU Declaration of Conformity and bear CE marking. CE is a regulatory conformity mark—not an independent quality certificate, proof of European manufacture or proof of sustainability. EU toy-safety overview
EN 71 should not be described as a “certificate” unless an actual certificate exists. It is better to state the exact tested parts, edition and laboratory report, for example:
Tested according to the applicable requirements of EN 71-1, EN 71-2 and EN 71-3.
Electrical toys may require additional assessment for electrical, battery, chemical and environmental requirements. Do not reduce the flashlight documentation to “CE, RoHS, EN71” without preserving:
- the EU Declaration of Conformity;
- complete applicable legislation;
- exact harmonised standards;
- battery specification;
- charging instructions;
- electrical test reports;
- manufacturer and EU responsible-person details;
- product and batch identification.
The General Product Safety Regulation also establishes online product-information, traceability, risk-assessment and responsible-economic-operator obligations. It has applied since 13 December 2024. European Commission GPSR overview
Materials and Environmental Claims
Claims such as the following must be supported for the exact product:
- FSC-certified wood;
- OEKO-TEX-certified cotton;
- sustainably harvested European wood;
- renewable materials;
- plastic-free;
- non-toxic;
- free from harmful substances;
- recyclable packaging;
- biodegradable;
- eco-friendly;
- reduced environmental impact;
- made in Europe.
FSC relates to certified forest-based sourcing and chain of custody. It does not independently certify toy safety, paints, oils, cords, packaging or the complete environmental impact.
Avoid describing a toy as “100% natural” when it includes paint, glue, cord, metal axles, synthetic wheels, printing inks or packaging components unless the complete composition supports that claim.
Inspection and Care
Stop using a product if you find:
- cracked or splintered wood;
- loose wheels or axles;
- damaged cords;
- exposed electrical parts;
- battery swelling or overheating;
- torn fabric;
- broken seams;
- bent or cracked tent poles;
- mould or persistent odour;
- missing fasteners;
- faded or unreadable warnings;
- evidence of a product recall.
Consumers and businesses can check published non-food product recalls through the EU Safety Gate.
