Lesene sestavljanke, zlagalne igrače in kreativna igra gradnje

Puzzles and construction-style activities invite children to compare shapes, test ideas, arrange pieces and try again through hands-on play.

Gravitaly’s Puzzles, Builders & Construction Toys collection currently brings together selected wooden puzzles, stacking and sorting toys, compact strategy games, illustrated jigsaw puzzles and portable playboxes with wooden characters.

Each product offers a different type of play. Some involve assembling a defined image, while others allow children to sort, balance, stack or create imaginative scenes. Piece size, complexity and official age grading vary, so the most visually appealing product is not always the most suitable one for a particular child.

Before ordering, check the exact product page for:

  • the manufacturer’s age recommendation;
  • number and dimensions of pieces;
  • materials and finishes;
  • small-parts warnings;
  • included components;
  • assembled size;
  • care instructions;
  • conformity and traceability information.

What Is Currently Included?

Depending on availability, the collection may include:

  • illustrated cardboard jigsaw puzzles;
  • wooden stacking towers;
  • wooden sorting and length-comparison puzzles;
  • peg-and-block construction toys;
  • compact wooden strategy games;
  • portable playboxes with illustrated wooden pieces;
  • open-ended small-world play sets.

The current collection does not include magnetic building sets, electronic construction kits or large-scale climbing and construction systems.

Choosing the Right Puzzle

A puzzle should be selected according to more than the child’s calendar age. Consider:

  • the official minimum age;
  • the number of pieces;
  • the size and thickness of each piece;
  • the child’s current experience with puzzles;
  • the level of visual detail;
  • whether the activity has one defined solution or permits open-ended arrangements;
  • whether the product includes pegs, posts, cords or small loose pieces;
  • the amount of adult support likely to be required.

An 80-piece puzzle may be manageable for one child and frustrating for another of the same age. A simpler puzzle is not necessarily less valuable if it suits the child’s current skills and interests.

Jigsaw Puzzles

Traditional jigsaw puzzles ask children to observe outlines, colours and visual relationships while fitting pieces into a complete picture.

The current rocket-shaped puzzle contains 80 pieces and forms an image measuring approximately 55 × 35 cm according to the listing. The product page should say:

Includes 80 puzzle pieces.

It should not say “80 high-quality puzzles,” which incorrectly suggests 80 separate products.

Developmental statements should be presented as opportunities:

Completing a jigsaw puzzle can provide opportunities to practise visual matching, concentration, hand–eye coordination and persistence.

Avoid promises that the product will “train memory”, “develop intelligence”, “guarantee concentration” or “calm the child”.

Wooden Stacking and Sorting Toys

Wooden towers and sorting puzzles can be used for comparing size, length, shape and position. Depending on the exact design, children may:

  • place pieces on posts;
  • arrange pieces from shorter to longer;
  • experiment with balance;
  • recreate the original structure;
  • make alternative arrangements.

These are play possibilities, not guaranteed educational outcomes.

Wood naturally varies in grain and colour. Minor visual differences are not necessarily defects, but every component should be inspected regularly for:

  • cracks;
  • splinters;
  • loose fragments;
  • sharp edges;
  • damaged coatings;
  • swelling caused by moisture;
  • mould or persistent odour.

Stop using the toy if damage creates a cutting, choking or other safety risk.

Pegs and Upright Posts

The fence puzzle and related construction toys contain upright wooden posts. Children should not run or climb while holding the product and should not place the posts near the face or mouth.

Use the toy on a stable surface and follow the manufacturer’s intended orientation. Do not allow a child to stand, sit or fall onto the structure.

The risk assessment for the exact product should address the shape, diameter, height and rigidity of the posts—not only the dimensions of the loose blocks.

Portable Playboxes

The current Floss & Rock playboxes contain illustrated double-sided wooden pieces, a fold-out or integrated play scene and a cotton storage bag.

They are intended for imaginative scene-building rather than traditional construction play. The listing should clearly identify:

  • the exact number of wooden pieces;
  • whether any pieces have wheels or moving parts;
  • whether the play surface is removable;
  • box dimensions;
  • storage bag inclusion;
  • official age;
  • small-parts warning;
  • materials for the pieces, box, fabric bag and printed surfaces.

“Mess-free” or “creative play without mess” can describe the absence of paint, glue or loose craft materials, but should not imply that pieces cannot be lost or scattered.

Wooden Tic-Tac-Toe

The current compact tic-tac-toe set contains small wooden playing pieces and a cotton bag that doubles as the game board.

The pieces are listed as approximately 3 × 3 × 0.8 cm, so the official age classification and small-parts assessment must be preserved exactly. Do not describe the set as suitable for younger children merely because the rules are simple.

A clear warning should be shown when applicable:

Warning: Not suitable for children under 3 years. Small parts. Choking hazard.

Use the exact legally supported warning supplied with the product rather than creating a different version from the dimensions alone.

Small Parts and Choking Risk

A component should not be described as “sized to prevent choking hazards” without the formal testing and classification for the exact product.

Even a toy that passes the applicable small-parts requirements must still:

  • carry the correct age grading;
  • display required warnings;
  • remain intact during foreseeable use and abuse testing;
  • be inspected for broken or detached components;
  • be kept away from younger siblings when appropriate.

A statement such as “contains large wooden components” does not replace testing.

Age Recommendations

Use only the official age from the manufacturer’s documentation, packaging, Declaration of Conformity and instructions for the exact SKU.

Do not silently change 3+ to 2+ because a product appears simple. Age grading reflects more than educational difficulty; it may also account for:

  • component dimensions;
  • foreseeable mouthing;
  • impact and drop testing;
  • detachable parts;
  • shape and projections;
  • coatings;
  • intended play pattern.

At present, the Long and Short Puzzle page contains a serious contradiction: the original description says 3 years+, while the generated specifications and FAQ say 2 years+.

Adult Participation

Some products can be explored independently after the child understands how to use them, but “independent play” should not be confused with no supervision.

An adult should:

  1. Check the age and warnings.
  2. Count and inspect the pieces.
  3. Remove all packaging.
  4. Demonstrate safe use when necessary.
  5. Keep small components away from younger children.
  6. Stop use if parts become damaged.
  7. Store the complete set after play.

Materials and Finishes

Material descriptions must cover the complete product where relevant:

  • wood species or wood-based material;
  • printed board or cardboard;
  • paint or pigment;
  • beeswax/oil finish;
  • adhesives;
  • cotton storage bag;
  • wheels or axles;
  • packaging.

“100% natural wood” may accurately describe an unfinished wooden component, but “100% natural product” is unlikely to describe a complete printed, coloured, finished and packaged toy.

“Finished with beeswax and vegetable oils” does not prove that the product is:

  • allergy-free;
  • food-safe;
  • suitable for mouthing;
  • completely chemical-free;
  • biodegradable;
  • non-toxic under every condition.

FSC Claims

Use FSC wording only when the certificate and chain-of-custody information cover the exact product or relevant wooden material.

A safer product-specific formulation is:

Made with wood sourced from FSC-certified suppliers, according to the manufacturer.

FSC concerns forest-based sourcing. It does not independently prove:

  • toy safety;
  • coating safety;
  • product durability;
  • European manufacture;
  • absence of all hazardous substances;
  • overall environmental sustainability.

Recycled-Material Claims

For the Floss & Rock products, “made from recycled materials” must identify:

  • which component is recycled;
  • whether the claim applies to the product, board, card, paper or packaging;
  • the recycled-content percentage where available;
  • whether it is pre-consumer or post-consumer material;
  • the supplier evidence supporting the claim.

Do not let “recycled materials” in the Materials field imply that the wooden pieces, cotton bag and complete product are entirely recycled.

Toy Safety and CE Marking

Toys placed on the EU market require the applicable conformity assessment, technical documentation, Declaration of Conformity, CE marking, warnings and traceability information.

CE should not be described as:

  • a certificate;
  • an independent safety award;
  • proof of premium quality;
  • proof of European manufacture;
  • proof of sustainability.

EN 71 is a series of standards, not a universal certificate. Where supported, use the exact parts and editions, for example:

Tested according to the applicable requirements of EN 71-1, EN 71-2 and EN 71-3.

This wording should be used only when the corresponding reports cover the exact model, materials, colours and production version.

The new EU Toy Safety Regulation 2025/2509 entered into force on 1 January 2026 and generally applies from 1 August 2030, with transitional provisions. Until the main application date, toys may continue to be placed on the market under the existing directive where the transitional conditions are met. The forthcoming framework introduces, among other changes, a digital product passport. EUR-Lex transition summary

Online Product Information and GPSR

Each online product offer should visibly provide or make readily accessible, as applicable:

  • manufacturer’s name and contact information;
  • EU responsible economic operator where required;
  • product name and identifying image;
  • model, SKU or EAN;
  • warnings and safety information;
  • official age grading;
  • traceability information;
  • instructions in the required market language.

The product title and marketing description do not replace this information.

Care and Storage

Unless the manufacturer states otherwise:

  • wipe wooden pieces with a soft, slightly damp cloth;
  • do not soak or immerse them;
  • do not use a dishwasher;
  • avoid strong cleaning chemicals;
  • dry immediately;
  • store all pieces in a dry place;
  • keep printed cardboard away from moisture;
  • keep cotton bags dry and clean;
  • do not store a damp product in a closed box.

Follow the exact supplier instructions where they differ.

When to Stop Using a Product

Stop using the toy if:

  • a piece cracks or splits;
  • wood becomes splintered;
  • a component detaches;
  • a finish peels or flakes;
  • a wheel or axle becomes loose;
  • a storage cord becomes damaged;
  • cardboard becomes mouldy or severely warped;
  • parts are missing and the intended activity can no longer be completed safely;
  • the product is subject to a recall.

Published product recalls can be checked through the EU Safety Gate.

Hands-On Play for Different Ages
