Setovi za kemiju i kemijske eksperimente
EU pravila o sigurnosti igračaka zahtijevaju da kemijske igračke nose mjere opreza specifične za proizvod i informacije o prvoj pomoći. Kućni sastojci
Neki setovi za eksperimente zahtijevaju poznate kućne sastojke kao što su voda, sol, šećer, ocat, ulje, brašno ili prehrambene boje.

Mikroskopi i laboratorijski alati

Teleskopi, dalekozori i povećala

Solar Observation
A standard telescope with an improvised, damaged, loose or eyepiece-mounted filter must never be used for viewing the Sun.
Solar viewing should take place only with:
- equipment expressly designed for that purpose;
- the exact approved filter system;
- all covers and attachments correctly installed;
- direct and continuous adult supervision;
- the manufacturer’s instructions followed in full.
Sunglasses, smoked glass, CDs, photographic film and homemade materials are not substitutes for approved solar-viewing equipment.
Magnets and Magnetism Sets
Magnetic STEM kits may include loose magnets, magnetic rods, balls, tiles, discs or components hidden inside other pieces.
If more than one high-powered magnet is swallowed, or a magnet is swallowed with another metal object, the pieces can attract through internal tissue and cause severe injury.
Before and after every activity:
- count loose magnets where practical;
- inspect casings and seams;
- stop use if a magnet becomes loose;
- keep magnetic parts away from babies and younger siblings;
- do not place magnets in the mouth, nose or ears;
- do not create jewellery or facial piercings with magnets;
- store the complete set in a closed container;
- follow the official age restriction.
If a magnet may have been swallowed or inserted into the body, seek urgent medical assistance and do not wait for symptoms.
Electrical Circuit Kits
Circuit and electronics kits should be used only with the voltage, power source and components stated by the manufacturer.
Before use:
- inspect wires and insulation;
- check terminals and connectors;
- identify polarity where relevant;
- keep liquids away;
- avoid short circuits;
- use only approved batteries or power adapters;
- disconnect power before rebuilding the circuit;
- prevent contact between exposed conductive parts and metal objects;
- stop use if a component overheats, smells unusual, sparks or becomes discoloured.
Never connect a toy circuit to a wall socket, domestic wiring, mains electricity or an unapproved power supply.
Batteries
Battery-powered STEM toys may use disposable batteries, rechargeable cells, battery packs or USB charging systems.
Adults should:
- install batteries when required;
- use the correct type and voltage;
- observe polarity;
- avoid mixing old and new batteries;
- avoid mixing different battery types;
- remove depleted batteries promptly;
- keep spare and used batteries away from children;
- inspect the battery compartment;
- close and secure the cover;
- charge only as instructed;
- use the supplied or approved cable and charger;
- supervise charging where required.
Stop using a battery that is damaged, leaking, swollen, unusually hot or producing an unusual odour. Follow local battery-disposal requirements.
Button and Coin Batteries
Button and coin batteries can cause life-threatening internal injuries if swallowed.
Choose products with secure battery compartments that require a tool or deliberate multi-action opening where applicable. Check the compartment after every battery change.
Never leave replacement or used button batteries loose on a desk, inside packaging or in a waste bin accessible to children.
If ingestion is known or suspected, seek emergency medical help immediately. Do not induce vomiting or give food or drink unless instructed by medical professionals.
Coding Toys and Programmable Robots
Before purchasing a coding or robotics product, check:
- whether a screen is required;
- compatible devices and operating systems;
- whether an app or account is required;
- internet requirements;
- supported languages;
- Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connectivity;
- software-support information;
- charging requirements;
- whether personal information is collected;
- camera or microphone functions;
- multiplayer or communication features;
- whether updates are required;
- the manufacturer’s privacy information.
A product described as “screen-free” may still require an app for setup, updates or advanced activities. Confirm the exact operating method on the individual product page.
Connected Toys and Privacy
Where a learning toy connects to an app, internet service or cloud platform, adults should review:
- account-creation requirements;
- age requirements;
- permissions requested by the app;
- microphone, camera and location access;
- parental controls;
- data-retention information;
- advertising or in-app purchases;
- contact or sharing features;
- password and update settings;
- how to delete the account and associated data.
Use strong, unique passwords and install official updates. Disable unnecessary permissions and connectivity features.
Do not place connected toys with active cameras or microphones in private areas unless their functions and privacy settings are fully understood.
Robotics and Moving Components
Robots, motorised models and mechanical kits may include gears, wheels, axles, pinch points and rapidly moving parts.
Keep:
- fingers away from gears;
- hair away from wheels and motors;
- loose sleeves and cords secured;
- the robot away from stairs and water;
- pets and younger children outside the test area;
- fragile objects away from the route.
Disconnect the power before adjusting jammed mechanisms or replacing components.
Do not attempt to stop a moving mechanism by holding its gears, wheels or propellers.
Engineering and Construction Sets
Before use:
- check that all components are suitable for the child’s age;
- identify small connectors and fasteners;
- follow the permitted building methods;
- use the supplied tools correctly;
- do not force incompatible pieces;
- respect maximum dimensions or load limits;
- test moving models on a clear surface;
- dismantle unstable constructions;
- store components securely.
A model built by a child should not be used to support a person, animal, heavy object or another toy unless the product expressly permits that use.
Tools, Cutting and Drilling
Some STEM sets include screwdrivers, awls, needles, scissors, small saws, hammers or drilling tools.
Check whether:
- the tools are real, functional or toy imitations;
- direct adult supervision is required;
- eye protection is recommended;
- the workpiece must be clamped;
- spare blades or sharp components are included;
- a dedicated work surface is required.
Tools should be used only for the intended activity and stored securely immediately afterwards.

Projectiles, Air Pressure and Launching Experiments
Rocket, launcher, catapult and air-pressure kits require a large, clear activity area.
Before launching:
- follow the official age and supervision requirements;
- inspect the launcher;
- use only approved projectiles;
- establish a clear exclusion area;
- keep faces away from the launch path;
- never aim at people or animals;
- use eye protection when required;
- avoid roads, windows, power lines and fragile objects;
- observe outdoor-use and weather restrictions;
- release stored pressure before dismantling.
Do not modify launchers to increase range, force or pressure.
Lasers and High-Intensity Light
Laser beams can damage eyesight. A product’s educational or novelty presentation does not guarantee that its output is safe.
Never aim a laser:
- into anyone’s eyes;
- at mirrors or reflective surfaces;
- toward vehicles;
- at aircraft;
- at animals;
- through binoculars, telescopes or cameras.

Use only products officially intended for children and follow every classification, age, power and supervision restriction. Stop use if the safety label is missing or the beam output is unclear.
Water Beads and Expanding Materials
Water beads can expand significantly after contact with liquid. If swallowed, they may enlarge inside the body and cause choking or intestinal obstruction.

Keep water beads away from:
- babies and young children;
- children who mouth objects;
- younger siblings;
- pets;
- food-preparation areas;
- drinks and transparent containers that could be mistaken for food;
- drains unless disposal there is expressly permitted.
Count and collect the beads after use where possible. Clean spilled beads immediately. If ingestion is suspected, seek urgent medical advice.
Plant-Growing and Nature Kits
For growing kits, check:
- whether seeds are included;
- whether the plant is suitable for homes with children and pets;
- allergen or skin-irritation warnings;
- whether soil or growing medium is included;
- fertiliser instructions;
- hygiene requirements;
- sunlight and temperature needs;
- whether the plant or its produce is edible;
- disposal guidance.
Do not eat plants grown from an educational kit unless the manufacturer expressly confirms that the product and growing materials are intended for food cultivation.
Wash hands after handling soil, compost, fertiliser, pond water or natural specimens.
Collecting Natural Specimens
When observing insects, leaves, rocks or pond life:
- respect local environmental rules;
- avoid unknown plants and fungi;
- do not handle wild animals;
- avoid animal remains and droppings;
- protect children from traffic, cliffs and open water;
- check for ticks and biting insects;
- wash hands after the activity;
- release living specimens when and where instructed.
Magnifiers and collection containers do not make potentially harmful organisms safe to touch.
Mathematics and Counting Resources
Counting sets, number tiles, cubes, counters and geometric pieces should be selected according to the official age range and component size.
For younger children:
- confirm that components do not present a choking hazard;
- supervise loose counters;
- store complete sets securely;
- replace missing or damaged pieces;
- avoid using household coins, beans or other improvised small objects.
Age-appropriate mathematics play can begin with sorting, matching and comparing before moving toward formal calculation. Follow the child’s interest without presenting age guidance as a guarantee of academic readiness.
Language and Literacy Resources
Alphabet toys, phonics games, flash cards and reading materials can vary by language and teaching method.
Before ordering, confirm:
- the language and alphabet;
- upper- and lower-case presentation;
- whether accents and special characters are included;
- pronunciation support;
- whether an app or audio device is required;
- the expected reading level;
- whether the resource follows a particular curriculum.
A product designed for one language may not transfer accurately to another.

Check the publication or revision date of maps, globes and geopolitical puzzles. Borders, country names and territorial representations can change or differ according to the publisher’s chosen conventions.
Educational maps should be treated as learning resources from a particular publisher, not as permanent or universally neutral representations.

Creating a Safe Learning Area
Prepare a stable, well-lit and uncluttered work surface.

- babies and younger siblings;
- pets;

- fragile furniture;
- valuable electronics;
- busy walkways.
Cover the surface only with materials permitted by the instructions. Ensure adequate ventilation when required.
Protective Equipment
Depending on the activity, the instructions may require:
- safety glasses;
- protective gloves;
- an apron;
- closed footwear;
- tied-back hair;
- a dust mask or other specified protection;
- a heat-resistant surface.
Use equipment in the correct child size and for the stated purpose.
Ordinary sunglasses are not safety glasses. Costume goggles do not provide chemical, impact or laser protection.
Adult Supervision
The required level of supervision depends on:
- the child’s age;
- the hazards involved;
- the complexity of the activity;
- the child’s experience;
- whether chemicals, tools, batteries or heat are present;
- the manufacturer’s instructions;
- the presence of younger children or pets.
„Adult supervision” means more than being somewhere in the same home. The adult should read the instructions, understand the risks and remain close enough to intervene.
Some products require direct adult participation rather than observation alone.
If an Accident Happens
Follow the first-aid instructions supplied with the product.
Depending on the incident:
- stop the activity;
- move the child away from the hazard;
- rinse affected skin or eyes only as instructed;
- preserve the product label and ingredient information;
- contact emergency services or a poison-information service when necessary;
- seek urgent help for suspected battery or magnet ingestion;
- do not induce vomiting unless instructed by a medical professional.
Do not rely on internet remedies in place of the product’s first-aid guidance or professional medical advice.
Cleaning, Storage and Disposal
After each activity:
- close all containers;
- disconnect electrical components;
- remove batteries when instructed;
- clean tools and surfaces;
- wash hands;
- allow reusable items to dry fully;
- count critical small components;
- return all pieces to their designated storage;
- dispose of mixtures according to the instructions;
- keep instructions with the kit.
Do not pour experimental residues into sinks, toilets, gardens or household waste unless the manufacturer’s disposal guidance permits it.
Keep chemicals, batteries, magnets, sharp tools and unfinished experiments in a secure place inaccessible to younger children.

Do not use a kit when:

Choosing by Age and Stage
For younger children, suitable learning products may include large-piece sorting activities, simple cause-and-effect toys, beginner counting resources and age-approved nature-observation tools.
Preschool children may enjoy age-appropriate matching, sequencing, measuring, construction and introductory science activities with suitable adult support.

Descriptions such as „STEM,” „Montessori-inspired,” „educational” and „brain training” do not represent a single certification or guarantee a particular result.
Evaluate the actual product according to:
- its official age range;
- instructions;
- learning activities;
- construction;
- included materials;
- safety information;
- required adult involvement;
- compatibility with the child’s current interests and abilities.
Educational terminology must never replace product-specific safety documentation.
European Toy-Safety Requirements
Products designed or intended for play by children under 14 are generally covered by the European toy-safety framework. Applicable requirements depend on the actual product, its components and its intended use—not simply whether it is marketed as a science or educational toy.
